Agile and Adventurous

As you might guess from the name, the Ford Explorer was made for adventuring off the beaten path. This three-row sport utility vehicle is ideal for taking friends and family into parts unknown, whether that's an isolated mountain retreat at the end of a steep and twisting road, or just a trip just across town.

The Explorer provides all the elbow room and interior comfort that SUVs are known for, with seating for seven and plenty of storage space. It exceeds the class standards, however, delivering incredible performance, a bundle of tech features, and the hard-boiled durability that drivers expect from Ford. As a family-friendly vehicle, it keeps passengers out of harm's way with an assortment of high-tech safety features.

If you're searching for an SUV to cruise the streets of Ayden or journey out into the heart of North Carolina and beyond, the Ford Explorer is up to the task. We hope you'll come see us at Doug Henry Ford of Ayden to try out the Explorer for yourself. We also offer a dynamic range of other Ford SUVs, pickups, vans, and sedans, and we're confident that you'll find the right vehicle for any situation.

What's New on the 2022 Ford Explorer?

Ford didn't roll out a slew of changes and updates for the 2022 Ford Explorer. This doesn't mean there aren't a few items to highlight. The new version does have some interesting redesigns to look at. First, there is a new trim to shop for. The all-new ST line has a rear-wheel-drive transmission and a V6 engine. There are some new elements of the King Ranch and Platinum versions as well. Both of these have engine upgrades, with a V6 that boasts 400 horsepower. Plus, when it's time to think about the exterior color, you have two additional options that weren't previously available. Stone blue and burgundy velvet have joined the line of choices.

History of the Explorer

In 1991, Ford determined that it was time to replace their enormous Bronco II, and debuted the Explorer as their first big step in a new direction. Also lifting inspiration from the Ford Ranger, the Explorer quickly proved itself as a well-rounded option equally suited for daily commuting and long road trips. By 2011, it was ready for an update, and Ford released that year's model with a total redesign. The old truck-style frame was replaced by a solid unibody frame, reclassifying the Explorer as an SUV.

The change turned out to be perfect timing, as U.S. demand for SUVs skyrocketed soon after the redesign. The Explorer holds its own within the competitive SUV segment, and as Ford continues to update and enhance their star SUV, the Explorer presents refreshed value with each new year model.
